A message from the Captain about R.E.
Video Summary:
The changes in our modern lives require us to adapt to a changing world, rather than clinging to systems that worked in the past. The recent Surgeon General's report on the public health crisis that parents face points to a greater need for communities to step up to care for each other in deeper, more meaningful ways than ever before.
Life is different, and R.E. at the UUCF is trying some different things to help meet the needs of our whole community, of all ages. Beginning this Sunday, January 12, 2025, R.E. for children from Pre-K to Middle School will resume during the early, 9:30 am Service. During Middle Hour we will be offering multiple opportunities for children to connect with each other in less structured ways - offering parents the option to socialize with other adults or join children in our theme based rooms to find connection as well. Our late Service at 11:30 am will see our Coming of Age group meeting as well as the beginning of a High School Youth Group. Other rooms will remain on reserve for R.E. purposes as we grow and expand our offerings.
In addition to changing and expanding the structure of Religious Education - new rooms will be reserved as Family Rooms during our 9:30 am Service and during Middle Hour. Family Rooms are not staffed - children are not to be dropped off or left alone in these spaces. Parents must remain with their children at all times. If parent/guardian needs to step out for any reason, the child must go with.
Our volunteer roster consists of 34 background checked adults, all with magnetic name tags located in the R.E. cabinet just outside of the Sanctuary. There, volunteers may sign up for shifts to assist in the various needs of Religious Education and supporting our children and families. New volunteers are always welcome!
Many hands make light work.
We encourage anyone interested in supporting this community to join our growing team of background checked volunteers. Our community needs the support of everyone - we can not leave parents alone to support each other - this is a job for us all!
